9 months old

Today Eli is nine months old! It is so crazy how fast time flies. I was just looking through the pictures of him when he was born and thinking about how far we have come. Ben, Eli, and I have had our ups and downs along the way but in the end we have become an amazing family.
I have asked Ben to contribute to the blog - which he didn't want to do but this is his quote "Eli is the man fo' shizzle" and " Eli threw up on me two times today - it was alot". Well I think that is enough from Ben.:)
Well here are some pics I took of him today. He new favorite thing to do it walk using his walker. He gets a little too confident sometimes and takes his hand off ( and then falls) but I think he is doing great.
I'm gonna sound cheesy for a minute- Eli brings so much joy to our lives. Ben and I can't wait to see what the next nine months, nine years, etc. etc. ( you get the picture) brings. We love him so much!!

Okay so once again it has been a very long time since I posted but I thought I would give you an update on our life. Things were very busy over the holidays. We had a wonderful first Hanukkah with Eli. Lots of family- as always and tons of busy days. He is changing so much every day I can't even keep up. His latest is that he never wants to sit anymore. Always wanting to stand. Definitely can't stand on his own yet but loves to hold on. He is such a funny guy.
The only frustrating part of our life right now is that we are losing our nanny AGAIN! I really hate the battle of childcare! IT is so hard to find someone that will stay with us. Our problem is that we only need someone one day a week. So hard- so if you know of anyone in Cincinnati that can help us please let us know. We lose our nanny at the end of this month. Okay here are just a few pics of him with his first Hanukkah
gift and some pics of him with his cousins when they were in town.
Hope everyone is doing well and keeping warm!

I am that mom

So I have come to realize that I am not the mom that I thought that I wanted to be. When I was pregnant I would often take an extra look at mothers with their babies. I saw the women that were dressed very cute with their designer diaper bag, hair done, and make-up on. I thought that is the mom that I am going to be. She looks so put together. I am now proud to say that I am definitely not that mom. I am the mom with her hair in a ponytail, spit up on her shirt, and diapers falling out of her bag. I am the mom that is late to everything because she was playing with her son and lost track of time. I am the mom who often does not get her teeth brushed until 10 or 11am (on her days off:) because her son is happiest in the morning and she doesn't want to miss his laughter. I am the mom who has no idea what is in style right now and really doesn't care.

Nothing can prepare you for motherhood. I was definitely shocked when I fell into it but I love every second of it. I am a very proud mother, who may be dirty or disheveled or late sometimes but I love my son and I think it shows. :)

My 30th

So since most of you got the new pics I sent out today. I will just post a few but I thought I would finally tell my 30th birthday story. I am not looking for pity, just evidence of how much Eli has changed our life. So the weekend before my big birthday I got many surprises- my brother came in, tickets to ATP, brunch with friends, and a night out on the town. It was wonderful but I knew Ben had planned something special for us on my actual birthday. I had told him I was willing to spend one night away from Eli and once that Friday night came around he told me we would be headed to the airport the next morning very early. I will admit I was so excited, I had no idea where we were going and I loved it. We noticed that Eli had a little bit of a stuffy nose but put him to bed and anxiously packed. Then the night began, I think I got a total of 30 min. of sleep. Eli could not breathe out of his nose and would just wail and cry. He was miserable and I was terrified. At one point he was choking on his own mucous and I freaked out. I could not sleep and either could he- we just started to cry together. Needless to say we headed to the pediatrician in the morning instead of the beach. The pediatrician did not have any concerns but did say that the first cold always rocks new parents. He told us to head to the airport, that Eli would be fine and the grandparents could take care of him. At this point I had no idea what time it was but I just wanted to see the beach. After many calls to my sister to make sure I was making the right decision we handed Eli to my mom and headed to the airport to see if we could make the next flight on stand by. We ran in and were informed that we must wait in an extremely long line because our flight had already taken off and we needed to be re-ticketed. After waiting in the line for 30 min. I see a man that looks like he has some power in a Delta jacket. With tears in my eyes I ran up to him and asked if we can please just go through and try to get on stand by. He tells me that it is not possible and our only option is to wait in line. At that point I lost it. I tried to hold it in but just started to cry. He was very taken back and ran to a computer to try and help me. He was so sweet but couldn't help us. Ben had scheduled a massage for me on the beach at 5pm. The clock said 1pm and there was no way we would make it. So we headed back home. I cried the whole way home. We ended up going for pizza and a movie while my mom babysat Eli. He was still sick and I will admit that I was so glad to be with him that night. He did much better, but I knew he was safe and that was the best birthday gift ever. I have heard similar stories from many parents. I figure Eli just didn't wantus to leave him just yet. Oh parenthood!
And I will get that night on the beach- Ben has promised me it will happen someday and trust me I will hold him to it!

Back to Work, Visitors, and Goodbyes

So I went back to work last week and it has made my life very crazy! I thought I was busy before but now it is really nuts! Getting up at 5:45 to get to work on time is hard but getting easier the more times I do it. Eli is doing okay while I am gone, but he still doesn't like those bottles:) We have tried alot of different things but if there are any suggestions out there please let me know. He will generally starve himself until about noon and then finally take the bottle. It is so sad but I am hoping he gets used to it.

We had a fun visitor this past weekend. Ben Schmidt came from Chicago to visit Eli. Schmidt was Ben's roommate at IU all four years. So we thought it was more than appropriate to put Eli in his IU gear for Schmidt. We had a great time with Ben and wish him luck with his new job searching adventure. This pic of Schmidt and Eli is so cute!

Unfortunately this weekend we are saying goodbye to some friends. The Hocking family is moving to Philadephia next week and we are so sad. Shanna had her little boy, also named Eli, at the same time my Eli was born and we have been great Mom friends ever since. It has been so nice to have a mom right around the corner to ask questions to and take walks. We wish them the best of luck in Philly. Here is a pic of the moms and their Elis! The boys are so cute!
